As a writer:
I have recently started working with Natasha and I could not be more excited. She is a hugely gifted musician - you can hear this though every one of her arrangements. Natasha can bridge the most complicated music and musical styles with beautifully elegant and unique arrangements. She is extremely easy to work with, very knowledgeable and professional, and so responsive to any questions and ideas. I feel very lucky to be working with such a powerhouse musician!

Natasha was very easy and fun to collaborate with. Her edits were on time and the end product was better than I had hoped. I will be sure to make her my go-to arranger for future endeavors. I highly recommend Natasha Blackwood for any of your arranging needs.

As a wedding performer:

I contacted Natasha to ask her to help my husband and I organize music for our wedding in 2016. I knew that I wanted live music throughout my whole wedding day, being a musician myself, and we decided having a live jazz trio would be great during the dinner portion of our wedding day. I knew Natasha had a strong background in jazz music and I knew she would be perfect to make this happen for us. We told her what kind of thing we were looking for and she did the rest! She completely took the stress away from us and we didn't have to worry about this portion of our wedding day anymore! We also asked her to play for our dances: the father and daughter dance, mother and son dance, and our first dance as husband and wife. She arranged all three songs for us for jazz trio, one was a country song, one was a classic rock song, and one was a jazz standard. She even sent us a recording of our first dance song that she had arranged so that we could rehearse our first dance song to it. She contacted other musicians to assemble jazz trio for us, with her playing and singing as well, and they were amazing! They played all throughout our dinner, stopped at the perfect times for our speeches, and the performances of her arranged songs during our dances were incredible. The musicians she chose to hire for us were lovely and nothing but professional. We had so many wonderful compliments on the music during dinner and our guests felt they were enjoying a private concert while they had dinner. I would highly recommend Natasha for any arranging or performing you may need, she is quick to respond to your questions and concerns, a wonderful musician, and an overall great person to work with! - Megan Buffet Oake, Vocalist and Music Educator

As a project coordinator:

I have had the pleasure of working with Natasha since January 2018, having partnered with her to develop the Doctor Androbox drag king brand. In our short time together, she has organized events, led a seven-piece band, and written a number of arrangements with the final goal of recording an album.

Natasha has incredible skills both in strategic coordination and artistic application. Her organizational skills are extraordinary; I am constantly impressed with her ability to juggle a wide variety and diversity of tasks all while producing high quality work and sticking to tight deadlines. Natasha has an eye for both current priorities and future directions. She is flexible and responsive and is able to adapt plans to accommodate for shifting contexts and demands. Her reliability is paralleled by her creative proclivity; Natasha’s arrangements were exactly what the songs needed to turn them from living room sing-a-longs to proper drag numbers. Her artistry is sensitive to situations, allowing her to work in a vast array of genres and styles. If could hire her full-time, I would.

As a technician:

Natasha Hartery-Blackwood has supported and worked with the First Light Friendship Centre (Formally St. John’s Native Friendship Centre) since the initial Spirit Song Festival in 2013. Natasha attended Spirit Song committee meetings, acting as Technical Director, where she went above and beyond to ensure the stage show exceeded everyone’s expectations. In addition to the technician responsibilities such as foreseeing technical needs, implementing a technical plan to meet tight budgets, and hiring of additional techs, Natasha also acted as stage manager and made sure the show ran smoothly and in a timely manner. It was never an issue when the plans changed, there were last-minute technical difficulties or the show doubled in size, she always kept a positive attitude and was very adaptable. Natasha also set up and operated sound for other special events such as our urban Mawiomi and National Indigenous People’s Day celebrations, which were very successful. We look forward to working with Hartery Music House again in the future!
